Mikoyan & Gurevich MiG-15bis – Museum of Flight

Wednesday, January 11, 2012 by Tony Seeley ~ Categories: Image a Day

So today is my first “use a picture from earlier in the year” posting.  I’m sure this will happen again soon.

I love this little plane, it’s in the corner of the big exhibit area at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. If memory serves me right this is a Chinese version of the MiG-15 and I love the big air intake at the front (I think that’s what it is). I like this shot as it shows the real benefit of HDR photography, you get a great shot of the inside of the room and the plane, but you can also see outside really well. Now our eyes do this all the time but the camera doesn’t have the dynamic range. So I think this is a cool image.

This is my favorite Halo shot to date.  I just looks so natural and real.

Lake Washington – Kirkland

Tuesday, January 10, 2012 by Tony Seeley ~ Categories: Image a Day

This evening I went back to Kirkland as the sun was setting and took the following shot of Lake Washington. Way over in the distance (on the horizon) you can just make out Seattle). It was a little windy so the water was moving about quite a lot and took on a misty sheen in the image. I got some nice red sunset images that I might upload later in the year.

I was using a pretty wide angle lens for this (10mm) and I actually got my foot in the shot at the bottom in the middle.  Thankfully content aware fill in Photoshop saved the day.

I was trying to figure out what I should do with the Halo dudes and asked myself this question: “If I was their size, what would I want to do?” This picture was the result.

Fisherman – Monroe

So this picture was shot in Monroe Washington. This guy was getting his gear ready for a days fishing, the sky looked great and the river was really calm. I asked him if I could take his picture and he was fine with it. I took a few shots and said thanks and went to leave when he asked me what magazine he was going to be in. I guess people don’t often take his picture! Anyway I imagine he will be buying the next edition of Playboy 🙂

OK I admit it I don’t like butterfly’s!  I didn’t want lots of shots of the Halo dudes holding guns, but this one appealed to me (due to my dislike of the insect).

Tolt River Bridge – Carnation

Sunday, January 8, 2012 by Tony Seeley ~ Categories: Image a Day

I had the day on my own today – family went out, so I grabbed the camera gear and hit the road.

This image was taken from a suspension bridge at Tolt McDonald Park looking up river to another bridge across the told river.  There were a few people out fishing standing in the river and one guy in his boat.  I liked the scene with the Cascade mountain range in the background and the sky came out red/orange and the tree line as almost blue.  I suspect this was because I had the wrong white balance set in the camera and while I do shoot raw and can easily change this in post processing I didn’t want to.

I love this image.  Lisa came home from shopping in Alderwood Mall with a glitter ball.  I had her hold the ball and my niece Aimee point a gridded flash at the ball.  I also had a small soft box for fill.  The lights on the floor and the reflective Xs were added in Photoshop.

Flower Reflection – Home

As today is Saturday I decided to do something different.

I went out to QFC and brought some flowers.  Got home and put them on top of a clean piece of perspex and put a black reflector behind the flowers.  Set up a couple of lights (one soft box and one grid) and took a load of images.

This one came out well, the flower reflection looks really nice and colors were great.

I had this idea of a shot where one of the Halo guys is looking cool while a girl walks past.  But I didn’t have a girl for them to pose for!  Abi to the rescue, she provided the little dole and the picture was made.  It was only after the fact that Abi pointed out that the doles pants are falling down!  Clearly she is from a rough part of town 🙁
